Birthday Cake Strife

I'm all of a tizz tonight. It's Mister C's birthday tomorrow and I've set out to bake a chocolate fudge cake- the trouble is our little fan forced convection oven has burnt it within 10 minutes of it being under the heat. That's on the lowest setting too! Our (rented) apartment was built many decades ago, and whilst I appreciate the questionable turquoise hue of the carpets and borders on the wall (to compliment their minty shade) there was no oven to be seen. So we've been making do with this little heat machine, and whilst it's perfect for moussakas, and lasagnas, baking is another matter entirely. Cake number 2 is in the oven now and we'll see what happens.
If it fails there's always the promise of a dinner date, some wine and karaoke.

This was taken earlier this year at my birthday celebration. Those are happy karaoke faces.

Nanowrimo novel is coming along swimmingly, as soon as uni is finished for the semester next week I'll have plenty more time to get my fingers dirty with it. I don't think I quite realised what an undertaking it would be, but it'll be good to have a challenge once uni is taken care of.

Introductory Niceties

Hi,

Just a brief introduction to the site and what the posts are going to involve! I'm a Journalism and Communications student in my third year of university-i'm contemplating taking next semester off for a break to do a counselling course (I volunteer for Lifeline part-time) and am also doing freelance work (centred around Public Relations) for an organisation that facilitates palliative care.

I live with my partner and a little black cat called Lawrence in an apartment on the hill. It has an extraordinarily long trek to the top, but compromises with city views from various windows and the balconies. I've been a long time reader of blogs, and in conjunction with Nanowrimo this year have decided to set up my own. At this stage it's going to centre around the writing experience, but also to talk about vintage and op-shopping, my love of reading and philosophy, and also some posts on international affairs.

I'm originally from Zimbabwe, but have been living in Australia for close to six years, so I have a vested interest in both Zimbabwean and Australian politics and international journalism! I enjoy Phillip Adams from Radio National who does a wonderful show called Late Night Live on Radio National. His soothing tones are up there with David Attenborough.

Here are a couple of photos to put faces and names in acquaintance.

Putting a white belly patch to the name: Lawrence

Lovely partner, we'll call him C.

And me. We'll place refreshingly beery beverages with Phillip Adams and Mr Attenborough shall we.
